Lenten Devotional-Day 33: No Winners in the Kingdom
Passage: Mark 10: 35-38, 41-44 35 James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to him and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to
For Pastor Tracy and for myself, the season of Lent encapsulates the part of the life of Christ that is central to our faiths. Easter is the celebration of Jesus’ victory over death and brokenness, which is the source of our hope. But it is empty of meaning without contemplating his arduous journey to the cross, which blocked the path to the empty tomb. Lent comprises the forty days prior to Easter, excluding the Sundays. The Church has considered it to be a time of reflection, confession, and denial as we consider the work God has done for us in Christ, as we remember that we are also called to pick up our cross, if we are to follow Jesus. Traditionally, the six Sundays were not included in the forty days, as they were seen as days to celebrate our life in Christ, as feast days among a time of fasting. Including them in this set of devotionals gives us forty-six days, so that is how many devotionals I decided to write. My hope is that they can help you reflect on your own journey through this most important time of the Church year.
Yours in Christ,
Rick.
